It was Halloween night, and the sky was very dark. Three brave children walked down the quiet, spooky street. They were wearing costumes and carrying big plastic buckets when they saw an old, abandoned house on the hill. A big jack-o'-lantern glowed with an orange fire on the porch. The children walked up the creaky wooden steps. They knocked on the heavy door and shouted, "Trick or treat!" Nobody answered, but the door opened slowly by itself. A black cat ran out of the house and scared them, but they entered anyways. Inside, spiderwebs covered the dusty walls and chairs. Suddenly, a cold wind blew through the dark hallway. A tall, scary ghost appeared and floated in the air. The ghost laughed loudly and shook a heavy metal chain. The terrified children dropped all of their sweet candies. They screamed and ran away into the foggy night. The children ran until they got home. They locked the front door. However, their mother smiled and gave them hot mugs of chocolate. Suddenly, they heard a soft knock on the window. They looked out and saw the ghost holding their candy buckets. The ghost smiled, waved goodbye, and vanished into the night.
